The gameplay experience was specifically inspired by the inventors' pussycats, Murtaugh and Riggs, and the platoon studied several images and vids of pussycats for exploration. Stray was told aesthetically by Kowloon Walled City, which the inventors felt could be meetly explored by a cat. They partnered with Annapurna Interactive to publish the game, known by its working title HK Project. The game's development began in 2015, led by BlueTwelve Studio founders Colas Koola and Vivien Mermet- Guyenet, who wanted to pursue an independent design after working at Ubisoft Montpellier.
Throughout the game, the player must shirk the negative Zurks and Sentinels, both of whom will essay to kill them. Using B- 12, they can store particulars set up throughout the world, and hack into technology to break mystifications necessary to progress the narrative. The player traverses by springing across platforms and climbing up obstacles, and can interact with the terrain to open new paths. The game is presented through a third- person perspective. The story follows a slapdash cat who falls into a walled megacity peopled by robots, machines, and contagions, and sets out to return to the face with the help of a drone companion called B- 12. Stray is a 2022 adventure video game developed by BlueTwelve Studio and published by Annapurna Interactive.
